State police continue to investigate officer-involved shooting that left man dead in Carlisle

AND JERRY STATE POLICE ARE LOOKING INTO WHETHER THE OFFICER WAS JUSTIFIED IN USING DEADLY FORCE. THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY HERE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY TELLS ME THAT DEADLY SHOOTING HAPPENED RIGHT BEHIND ME, BEHIND A FORMER FLOWER SHOP THAT CLOSED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO HERE ON G STREET ON SATURDAY. NOW, THESE COURT RECORDS SHOW THAT NATHAN LIBERATOR, THE MAN WHO WAS SHOT, DID HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE LAW IN THE PAST. BUT HE ALSO HAD RECENTLY OBTAINED A COLLEGE DEGREE. POLICE BLOCKED OFF THE STREETS AROUND WHAT WAS ONCE GEORGE’S FLOWER SHOP IN CARLISLE. IT’S NOW CLOSED. CUMBERLAND COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY SEAN MCCORMICK SAYS THIS IS WHERE A POLICE OFFICER SHOT AND KILLED 33 YEAR-OLD NATHAN LIBERATOR FOLLOWING AN ALTERCATION SATURDAY. POLICE HAVE NOT SAID WHETHER LIBERATOR HAD A WEAPON. CARLISLE BOROUGH POLICE WERE INITIALLY CALLED THE C STREET A FEW BLOCKS AWAY SATURDAY AFTERNOON FOR A REPORT OF A DISTURBANCE. RESIDENTS TOLD NEWS EIGHT THEY WERE ASKED TO STAY IN THEIR HOMES. THE DA SENT ME THIS STATEMENTRILLIONEADING IN PART QUOTE. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE CONDUCT A COMPLETE AND THOROUGH INVESTIGATION BEFORE MAKING ANY PUBLIC STATEMENTS TO ENSURE THAT ALL THE INFORMATION WE PUT OUT IS ACCURATE. COURT RECORDS SHOW. NATHAN LIBERATOR PLEADED GUILTY TO ROBBERY IN 2009, WHEN HE WAS 19, AND WAS SENTENCED TO 4 TO 8 YEARS IN JAIL LAST SEPTEMBER. HE WAS CHARGED WITH SIMPLE ASSAULT, TRESPASS AND HARASSMENT, MISDEMEANORS. HE WAS FREE ON $20,000 BAIL. THE CASE WAS PENDING IN THE COURT SYSTEM. IN 2020, LIBERATOR EARNED A COLLEGE DEGREE. AND IT IS COMMON FOR PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE IN THESE CASES TO REMAIN SILENT, NOT ISSUE A PUBLIC COMMENT. WHILE THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING AND NOT ACTUALLY SET A DEADLINE AS TO WHEN IT MIGHT BE COMPLETED. Pennsylvania State police continue to investigate the police-involved shooting over the weekend that left a man dead.Carlisle police were called to C Street for a reported disturbance around 2 p.m. Saturday. Officers and Liberator ended up a few blocks away on G Street, near what was formerly George's Flowers. State police said that is where an altercation took place, and an officer shot and killed 33-year-old Nathan Liberator.Police have not said whether he was armed.Residents told News 8 they were asked to show identification and stay in their homes during the incident.Troopers are not commenting on an active investigation into whether the officer was justified in using deadly force.Cumberland County District Attorney Sean McCormack tells News 8, "It is important we conduct a complete and thorough investigation before making any public statements to ensure that all the information we put out is accurate."Court records show Liberator pleaded guilty to robbery back in 2009 and was sentenced to between four and eight years in prison.He was charged with simple assault, trespass and harassment last September, all misdemeanor charges. That case was pending.He obtained a college degree in 2020. Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to raise money for his funeral service.
